Pictures by Dann's Studio
83a Brighton Road, Redhill, Surrey.
Edwin Dann was born circa 1831 in Cuckfield, Sussex, died in 1896. Thomas Dann, Edwin's youngest son, continued the business under the name "Edwin Dann & Son" until the early 1920's. The building still exists currently as a taxi business. You need go no further for an early local photography studio, producing high quality portait and topological photographs, that have often survived the ravages of time extremely well.

This is a stunning photo, but can anyone confirm for sure whether this is now the pathway between the tall trees at the southern end of the asylum estate? Are these the same trees we see today? Does anyone know when the stream was filled in and exactly where it entered the estate from the northern end? Thanks to all contributors.

I think you will find that this is Redhill brook or Gurneys brook as it sometimes called this part run between the field on the left as you go up Princes road towards Royal Earlswood and the Philanthropic there used to be a bridge over the brook about where this photo was taken it was pulled down many years ago and i think in the distance is Brambletye park road bridge.
