I was born in Mogador Road in 1947. The house, called Cotswold, is the third one up from the bottom right in the picture. The shop at the top of the road was owned by Mr & Mrs Ringrose in my early childhood. It was general grocery and household items etc.

When they retired it was bought by Mr & Mrs Lewis who had two daughters Peggy & Caroline. They moved on about 1962.

I used to do the paper round when I was 12 that included Mogador Road and all the large houses at the top of Mogador, also the Sportsman pub.

I well remember the two bomb craters in the field opposite Mogador Road and used to play in them as a young child before they were filled in.

Towards the top of the road on the left you can see the air raid shelter that us kids used to play in as well.

The last time I looked the shop sells horse related items. All the fruit orchards and fields are no longer used for such purpose and all seem to have been turned into pasture for horses.

I remember when the street lights were installed, it caused much excitement at the time.

My mother was born in the house next to the shop and survived a German fighter attack during the war when she was machine gunned whilst walking down Reigate Hill. She had one bullet hole in the rim of her hat and one in the hem of her coat, so I'm lucky to have been born at all.

My father was a firemen during the war. The U.S. Flying Fortress that crashed on Reigate/Colley Hill did so whilst he was on home leave. He attended but could do nothing for the crew unfortunately.

Hi Tracey. I am Nephew of Charlie & Nellie Ringrose. I lived in Olive Cottage Mogador Rd. I think you had a brother John. Also Robert Knee. I knew you too. VE Day, Mr ringrose threw a big party for many of us kids. The shop also served tea & coffee to bus drivers & conductors on th no 80 route where it made its return journey.
