Used to go here in the sixties after going to the Odeon cinema. After a couple of pints would go to the chip shop opposite for supper, lovely.

I think my grandfathers Aunt worked here at the time of the 1911 census. Does anyone know if there are records kept from this time so that I can try to verify if I have the right lady or not.

Thanks

Denise

Annette Rosalind Golding from Luton, Bedfordshire posted this comment on Thursday 30 July 2015 17:53:00.

I attended this school from 1945 until 1948. My religion is Church of England not Catholic but after my mother was left as a widow during the war, she chose this school because she thought that the Nuns would be kinder than ordinary teachers, which in my case they were kind and I will never forget Mother Columbia all dressed in her white Nun's robes. I loved her! I was there from age 6 until age 9 when my mother decided to take me away because of an argument with the Nuns. Apparently I was dancing on the stage with whopping cough during one of the parents visiting days, although I did have by liberty bodice on (which in itself annoyed my mother). My best friend was a girl called Angela and I think I still have a picture of her. It would be lovely to find her.

I boarded for a few weeks when there was a emergency in the family. Luckily I had a torch to use so I could read in bed! I had to be one step ahead of the Nuns so I wouldn't get caught. Looks like the dormotories hadn't altered that much when I stayed!!!

I was a boarder at this school in about 1965 and it was in this chapel at morning mass that I fainted. I was sitting first row on the right. I have very fond memories of this school.

I was a day girl at the convent from 1968. The chapel was very beautiful. Such a shame that the Convent was demolished.

John Barrett from Reigate posted this comment on Thursday 23 February 2012 17:38:00.

I saw the last of the roof being removed from this Chapel on 22 February. It was the curved piece above the altar. The site is being levelled for housing.

Mary Poole new marti from Cotswolds oxon posted this comment on Monday 16 November 2015 08:08:00.

I was a boarder from 1964 to 1968. I vividly remember the dormitory and the daily mass in the chapel. The only way we could be excused from 06.30 mass was to go for a cross country run! Does anyone remember sister Jerome and sister Emmanuel?

Joan Evertitt from Farnham posted this comment on Monday 11 April 2016 17:02:00.

Hello Mary Poole, I went to St Josephs from 1960 to 1964 and I remember Sister Jerome and Sister Emmanuel.I can't say that I was happy at the school however I would love to hear from any of the girls in my year. I can remember Jacko Bateman Ann Connelly Karen Clark.

Elizabeth Heyer from Steeple Bumpstead posted this comment on Thursday 11 August 2016 22:09:00.

I was at the school with my twin sister Jane for about 3 years - about 1963 to 1967. We hated it. The nuns were cruel and their behaviour was at odds with their apparent religious beliefs.
