Dennis Hartas was closely involved in my ATC squadron 1172 when I was a young teenager in roughly 1962. He would take me and other ATC lads flying in his Tiger Moth ( I think the one pictured) and an Auster, and never asked for any financial contribution. A very generous and fascinating man.

I knew Dennis Hartas when in the ATC squadron 1172. From 1957. He was such a generous man taking me flying in Tiger moth reg no AC/DC. We flew to Christchurch a lot together with friends Vic and Paul Deschamps. We became life long friends and did various trips in a Jodel together with Tony Milner to France for Holidays. He used to take my girlfriend Liz Barton on the wing walking shows with the Tiger Club from 1966 onwards. He was great friend and was a great asset to the ATC 1172 squadron at Hinckley Wood in Surrey from 1953 till 1978. He was a gifted aerobatic pilot with many accolades and also won the Kings Cup Air race which was his ultimate goal.

I met Dennis in the Lensburry Shell Club in 82 as a school kid visiting the German School of London. He took me and my twin brother Eike a couple of times out to the Redhill aerodrome. I will never forget the flight on the Acdc tiger moth. He teached us snooker and sqash and was a great friend for my whole family. We lived close to his home in Clarence Rd, Teddington.

My father, Ron Pemberton was a warrant officer with the ATC squadron based in Esher. Dennis Hartas taught him to fly a Tiger Moth.
