This is the daily (Mon - Sat) through train from Wolverhampton to Margate, because I usually
travelled on it from Redhill to Dover. It ran in the late 50's and early
60's, was usually 11 coaches long with a right old mixture of coaches,
and I don't remember it ever running in the other direction! (East Kent
must have been stuffed full of these carriages!!)

Beautiful colour photograph of a London Midland Region-based Black 5 but shown the wrong way round! The excursion train is probably bound for to or from Brighto, originating in the Midlands or northern home counties

OK - it should now be the right way around. Thanks for that spot, Roger.

This may have been the last day of steam and manned stations on the line. I can remember the posters, blue print on white, and "4th January 1965" at the top (I was 7 and lived in Edenbridge).

This photograph is not at Redhill - I lived there for the first 21 years of my life and bashed the shed most Sunday mornings!

It looks more like Basingstoke to me.
